About Enigma Atlas

Enigma Atlas is a community archive of reportedly haunted places and cryptid sightings from around the world — collected, mapped and documented with their sources.

What this is

Enigma Atlas gathers folklore, historical hauntings and cryptid reports into a single, searchable archive. It currently documents 394 haunted locations and 142 cryptid sightings, each placed on a world map and linked back to where the information comes from. It is a project about the stories people tell — not a claim that any of them are true.

Where the data comes from

Entries are researched from public, attributable material and then written in our own words. Where an entry links to an external reference, we show it on the file so you can check it yourself:

  • Original research and writing — the descriptions are written by us from historical facts and folklore, not copied from any single source.
  • Curated folklore — famous cases and legends compiled by hand from widely reported, public accounts.
  • Wikipedia & Wikidata — used to identify places and cross-check coordinates, and linked as further reading where relevant, not as our description text.
  • User reports — sightings and testimonies submitted by the community, and clearly marked as such.

How we work

We import data through a repeatable pipeline and keep the source attribution attached to every record. Coordinates place each entry on the map. Descriptions aim to be substantial and specific rather than vague; when a source doesn't give enough to write something meaningful, we leave the entry out. Every file shows a 'last updated' date so you can judge how fresh the information is.

About the content

Enigma Atlas documents reported hauntings and cryptid legends from around the world — what people have witnessed, told and written down across cultures and centuries. Many of the locations are private property, so please be respectful and lawful if you ever visit a place listed here.

Contribute

Know a well-sourced case we're missing, or have you seen something yourself? You can open a new file. Contributions with a clear source and a real location help the archive most.
