Enigma Atlas is written, researched and maintained by one person. I sign as V. Serrano.
About the byline
V. Serrano is a pen name. I use it out of a preference for privacy, and I would rather say so openly than invent a name that looks real: behind every entry there is a specific person, accountable for what is published, and you can write to them through the contact form.
Who is behind it
I am a senior software developer, Spanish, with more than two decades of professional experience. I am not a trained historian or folklorist, and I do not claim to be. What I bring is what a good documentary researcher brings: reading the original sources before writing, distinguishing what is on record from what merely gets repeated, and citing where each fact comes from so that anyone can check it.
Why this archive exists
Almost everything published about haunted places and cryptids repeats the same sentences without checking anything. Enigma Atlas grew out of the frustration of reading, over and over, impossible figures and unsourced anecdotes. Most of these stories have something real behind them — an epidemic, a famine, a crime, a newspaper hoax — and that real thing is almost always more interesting than the legend.
How I work
Every expanded entry is researched against primary and academic sources wherever they exist, tested against the sceptical explanation, and cited with author and year. If a fact cannot be verified it does not go in, however widely it circulates. The full editorial policy is published. How we verify our content.
