Grandmaster's Palace, Valletta

Seat of the Knights Hospitaller's Grand Masters from the 16th century and later the British Governor's residence, the palace carries a particularly odd ghost story from its colonial era. An English lady staying there repeatedly heard the sounds of cats and dogs fighting in an empty room but found nothing when she looked inside. One night the noise resolved into a large cat that leapt through a closed window and vanished before her eyes; when she asked the palace staff, no one had seen any animal escape. Another guest later reported a distinct sense of being watched while sleeping in the same wing. Valletta as a whole has a dense reputation for hauntings, and the Grandmaster's Palace — now home to Malta's House of Representatives — is counted among its most persistent.
