Sanzhi UFO houses

Construction began in 1978 on a resort of pod-shaped vacation homes near Sanzhi, Taiwan, modeled on the Finnish "Futuro house" design and intended as a retreat for US military personnel and wealthy tourists. The project stalled and was abandoned partway through after the developer ran into financial trouble, but locals told a darker version of events: that a string of fatal construction accidents, and later fatal traffic accidents involving workers, convinced laborers the site was cursed, prompting them to walk off the job entirely. Left to decay for three decades, the pastel pods became one of Asia's most photographed abandoned sites, drawing urban explorers who reported cold spots and unease inside the fiberglass shells despite the tropical heat outside. Local authorities eventually demolished the complex between 2008 and 2010 to make way for redevelopment, but the "UFO village" remains a fixture of Taiwanese ghost-story compilations.
