Why is Pudu Prison said to be haunted?

Built by the British colonial government between 1891 and 1895, Pudu Prison held Kuala Lumpur's condemned for over a century, its 394-metre perimeter wall once decorated with what was billed as the world's longest mural. Executions by hanging were carried out within its walls into the late 20th century, including drug traffickers sentenced under Malaysia's mandatory death penalty in the 1980s, and it was here that some of the country's most notorious inmates spent their final nights. When demolition crews began tearing the complex down around 2010, workers reported unexplained cold spots, tools going missing, and footsteps pacing empty corridors long after the cells had been cleared. Locals who passed the prison at night for decades already spoke of chains rattling behind the walls. Only the main gate and a short stretch of wall were preserved before the rest gave way to redevelopment by 2012.
