Why is Hoia Baciu Forest said to be haunted?
Just west of Cluj-Napoca, Hoia Baciu forest earned the nickname "the Bermuda Triangle of Transylvania" after biologist Alexandru Sift began cataloguing its odd features in 1968, including an open, perfectly circular clearing where locals say nothing grows well and hikers report sudden nausea or disorientation. That same year, technician Emil Barnea photographed what he described as a disc-shaped object over the clearing, an image that circulated widely and helped cement the forest's paranormal reputation alongside older shepherd folklore about a herder who vanished into the woods with two hundred sheep and was never found. Visitors regularly describe losing track of time inside the forest, unexplained anxiety, and trees bent into strange, twisted curves unlike the healthy growth just beyond the treeline. Paranormal tour groups now run regular night visits to the clearing, still widely treated by locals as a place best avoided after dark.
