LOCATION
Why is Morgan House, Kalimpong said to be haunted?
Built in the 1930s by English jute baron George Morgan as a private residence on the hill station of Kalimpong in West Bengal, Morgan House is now run as a heritage hotel by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation, but it is best known locally for the ghost said to still occupy it: the spirit of Mrs. Morgan herself. According to accounts passed among staff and guests over the decades, Mrs. Morgan died in the house shortly after it was completed and never left it, and visitors staying in certain rooms report hearing footsteps pacing the corridors at night, doors opening on their own, and glimpses of a woman in a flowing white gown near the staircase. Staff have long declined to sleep in the house's upper floors after dark, and the hotel's reputation as one of India's most talked-about haunted stays has, if anything, added to its appeal among curious travelers touring the eastern Himalayan foothills.
