Why is Inverlochy House said to be haunted?
Inverlochy House is a Victorian-era residence in Wellington, New Zealand, built in 1878 for city councillor Kennedy Macdonald. Auctioned off in 1893 after Macdonald's bankruptcy, the fourteen-room property was once advertised as an 'unrivalled family residence' with conservatories, a fernery, and stables. In 1980 the Williams Development Holdings company gifted the building to the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, which has run it since as the Williams School of Art. Students and staff have long described the historic house as haunted, though accounts of what exactly is seen or heard rarely make it into print. The building is registered as a Category 2 historic place by Heritage New Zealand, valued as much for its architecture as for the ghost stories that cling to its studios and stairwells.
