Why is Teochew Cemetery (Bangkok) said to be haunted?
The Teochew Cemetery is a sprawling burial ground of roughly 105 rai (about 17 hectares) in Bangkok's Sathon District, founded in 1899 and jointly managed by the Tio Chew Association of Thailand, the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, and the Hainan Dan Family Association. Long known locally as the Wat Don Graveyard, the site was for decades widely believed to be haunted, its rows of graves and overgrown paths feeding local ghost stories passed among nearby residents. In 1996 city authorities began renovating the neglected grounds, and part of the cemetery has since been converted into a public park where the living now walk among the dead. Older residents still point to the site's history and scale as reason enough to avoid it after dark.
