Why is Government House (Saskatchewan) said to be haunted?
Government House rose on the Regina plain in 1891, a limestone vice-regal residence built for the Lieutenant Governor of the North-West Territories, far grander than the raw prairie town growing around it. For over a century, staff and visitors have described a presence on the upper floor: footsteps crossing empty rooms, doors swinging shut unassisted, and a woman in old-fashioned dress glimpsed near the grand staircase, whom tour guides have nicknamed "the housekeeper." A paranormal investigation conducted in the building during the 1990s reportedly logged cold spots and camera malfunctions in the ballroom. One longtime guide is said to have remarked, "you are never really alone in this house." The residence stood empty from 1944 until its restoration in 1984, a long silence that staff believe only deepened whatever lingers within its walls.
