Why is Manila Central Post Office said to be haunted?
Heavily damaged in the 1945 Battle of Manila and rebuilt in 1946, the Central Post Office building has accumulated decades of ghost reports from its own staff. A security guard with 35 years on the job said he repeatedly saw soldiers in old uniforms marching down a hallway as though chasing a 'white lady' — the apparitions vanished whenever he made the sign of the cross. Other longtime employees describe unexplained chains dragging and heavy footsteps echoing through empty rooms at night, and a parcel-section worker of 21 years reported recurring cold, unsettling sensations near closing time. Investigators and staff alike link the sightings to the building's wartime history, when Japanese forces occupied the area during the battle that killed tens of thousands. The hauntings were the subject of a televised 2021 paranormal investigation.
