Why is Ottawa Jail Hostel said to be haunted?
The Ottawa Jail Hostel occupies the former Carleton County Gaol, a jail on Nicholas Street in Ottawa, Ontario, that operated until its closure in 1972, when Hostelling International bought and converted it while leaving much of the original structure intact β guests can still book a night sleeping in a former cell. The top floor once served as the jail's death row and has been restored close to its original condition, with daily tours through the block. For years the hostel partnered with The Haunted Walk tour company, whose guides recounted reports of unexplained cold spots, footsteps, and voices on the former death-row floor before the hostel ended the partnership to convert those spaces back into accommodation.
