Why is Boleskine House said to be haunted?

On the wooded southeast shore of Loch Ness, Boleskine House became notorious after occultist Aleister Crowley bought it in 1899 and spent months there attempting the "Abramelin Operation," a demanding ritual meant to summon and bind his own Holy Guardian Angel β€” and, by his own account, unleashed rather than banished dark forces before abandoning the working unfinished. Later owned by Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page from 1970 to 1992, the house's reputation for oppressive atmospheres, unexplained fires and cold presences only deepened; Page himself referenced its history in interviews about the band's fascination with the occult. Devastating fires in December 2015 and July 2019 gutted much of the historic structure. Restoration by the Boleskine House Foundation was completed in the following years, and the property has since reopened, still drawing pilgrims curious about its dark reputation.
