LOCATION
Why is Bramshill House said to be haunted?
Deep in the Hampshire countryside, Bramshill House has stood since around 1605, when Edward la Zouche, 11th Baron Zouche, raised this vast Jacobean prodigy house between hunting trips with his royal falcons. For over a century the mansion trained police officers as the National Police College, and generations of cadets swapped stories about the "Grey Lady" said to glide along the Long Gallery. The most persistent legend recalls a young bride who, playing hide-and-seek on her wedding night, hid inside an oak chest in an attic and could not lift the lid again; her skeleton, still in silk, was allegedly found decades later. Staff have long reported the scent of her perfume and a soft, mournful crying drifting through the empty rooms after dark.
