LOCATION
Why is Althorp said to be haunted?
Althorp, ancestral seat of the Spencer family for over 500 years and the childhood home and burial place of Diana, Princess of Wales, carries older ghost stories of its own. In the mid-19th century, the Dean of Lincoln, a guest of the 4th Earl Spencer, complained that a figure dressed as a groom β believed to be a deceased servant of the 3rd Earl β entered his room in the night carrying candles and checking they were properly snuffed out. Just before the First World War, a young girl in grey, pre-Victorian dress was repeatedly seen in the house's long picture gallery, near a doorway too small for an adult to use comfortably. More recently, a local man named Jack Spencer was reportedly seen attending a party at Althorp months after his death in 1975.
