Why is Ballygally Castle said to be haunted?

Ballygally Castle was built in 1625 by James Shaw, a Scottish settler, on the Antrim coast overlooking Ballygally Bay, and it now operates as a hotel while keeping its reputation as one of the most haunted buildings in Ulster. The best-known legend concerns Lady Isabella Shaw, James's wife, said to have been locked in a tower room by her husband and to have either fallen or been pushed to her death trying to escape through the window. Guests staying in what is now called the Ghost Room have long reported knocking on the door in the dead of night, a cold presence in the room, and a woman's figure glimpsed on the spiral staircase leading to the tower. A second, gentler haunting is attributed to a former housekeeper named Lady Nixon, said to still tidy rooms and check on sleeping children decades after her death.
