Why is Kellie Castle said to be haunted?
Below Kellie Law in the East Neuk of Fife, Kellie Castle preserves parts dating to the 14th century beneath later additions by the Oliphant and Lorimer families. Among its ghost stories, visitors and former residents have long reported the sound of a baby crying in one of the upper rooms with no child present, a phenomenon some link to an infant death in the household generations before the Lorimer family's careful restoration began in 1878. A second tradition speaks of a "Blue Lady" occasionally glimpsed drifting through the castle's older corridors at dusk. Sculptor Hew Lorimer, who lived at Kellie until his death in 1993, spoke openly of the family's acceptance of the castle's odd noises and cold spots as simply part of daily life. The National Trust for Scotland has managed the property since 1970.
