Why is Kinnaird Head said to be haunted?

At Kinnaird Head in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, the 16th-century castle converted in 1787 into Scotland's first Commissioners of Northern Lights lighthouse stands beside the older Wine Tower, subject of a grim local legend. Tradition holds that a daughter of the Fraser family, fleeing a forced situation or shipwrecked while eloping, drowned in the sea below the tower around the 16th or 17th century while a priest, too absorbed in saying Mass inside, failed to hear her cries for help; her spirit, sometimes called the Green Lady, is said to linger near the Wine Tower's carved ceiling boss, which locals connect to her story. Lighthouse keepers over the centuries reportedly described unexplained sounds from the rocks below on stormy nights, a tale that persists even as the site now operates as the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses.
