Why is Heady Lane Cemetery said to be haunted?
This small family burial ground in Fishers, Indiana dates to 1812 and holds Hamilton County's oldest known grave marker. Its ghost story centers on the nearby ravine known as Heady Hollow: local legend holds that a one-room schoolhouse, Delaware Township School No. 2, burned there with children trapped inside, and that on foggy nights their cries and small figures can still be seen among the trees. The Hamilton County Historical Society disputes that the school ever existed at that spot, though an 1866 township map does mark a "School No. 2" near the intersection. A rival version instead blames the hollow's reputation on 19th-century highway robbers who used the woods to ambush travelers on the NoblesvilleβIndianapolis road. Which story is true, if either, has never been settled.
