Why is Montgomery House Bed and Breakfast said to be haunted?
Built in 1908 on land that had belonged to the Cowlitz people, this two-story Craftsman house in the timber town of Kalama, Washington, passed through several logging-era families before becoming a bed and breakfast reputed to be the most haunted address in town. Innkeepers and guests have described a woman in period dress glimpsed on the staircase and children's laughter in an upstairs bedroom long associated with a family said to have lost a child there in the early twentieth century. The claims drew enough attention that psychic-medium Danielle Egnew wrote and directed a 2009 feature documentary about the house, Montgomery House: The Perfect Haunting, filmed largely on site with the owners' cooperation. "This house doesn't hide what it is," Egnew said while promoting the film. The Columbia River town, once a booming Pacific Northwest logging hub, still trades on the house's reputation today.
