Why is Riddle House said to be haunted?
Built in 1905 in West Palm Beach using materials left over from Henry Flagler's hotel construction, the Riddle House began life as the "Gatekeeper's Cottage" for Woodlawn Cemetery before becoming the home of city manager Karl Riddle in 1920. Local legend holds that in the 1920s an assistant to Riddle hanged himself from the rafters in the attic after losing a duel or facing personal disgrace, and that his spirit, nicknamed "Buck," has remained tied to the house ever since. Moved in 1980 and again in 1995 to Yesteryear Village at the South Florida Fairgrounds, the house has drawn paranormal investigators for decades, with reports of objects moving on their own, a rocking chair that sways without anyone in it, and cold drafts near the attic stairs β enough attention that the house was featured on the television series "Ghost Hunters."
