Why is Sorrel–Weed House said to be haunted?
The Sorrel–Weed House is a Greek Revival and Regency mansion on Madison Square in Savannah, Georgia, built for merchant Francis Sorrel and first opened to the public as a museum in 1940 — one of the first two homes in the state named a Georgia State Landmark, in 1954. It was the boyhood home of Confederate Brigadier General Moxley Sorrel, and General Robert E. Lee is recorded visiting in 1861 and 1862. Since 2005 the house has run daytime architectural tours alongside nightly "Historical Ghost Tours," trading on a long local reputation as one of Savannah's most haunted addresses. Guides on those tours recount reported sightings and unexplained sounds tied to tragedies in the Sorrel family and among the enslaved people who once worked the property.
