Why is Wolf Creek Inn State Heritage Site said to be haunted?
Built in 1883 along the stagecoach road between Sacramento and Portland, the Wolf Creek Tavern is one of the oldest continuously operating inns in the Pacific Northwest and hosted travelers including Jack London, who reportedly worked on part of "The Valley of the Moon" in an upstairs room around 1911, and Clark Gable, who honeymooned there in 1940. Staff and guests over the decades have described London's old room as carrying an unusual chill and reported a woman's footsteps crossing the floor above the parlor at night when no other guest was registered. Now run by Oregon State Parks as a heritage site, the inn keeps its Victorian furnishings largely intact, leaving overnight guests to decide whether the literary ghost still keeps a room.
