Why is Annabelle said to be haunted?
Annabelle is not the porcelain-faced doll of horror films but a soft Raggedy Ann toy, given to a nursing student in Hartford, Connecticut, by her mother in 1970. The student and her roommate said the doll changed position on its own and left handwritten notes on parchment paper, though neither owned parchment. A medium later claimed the doll was possessed by the spirit of a young girl named Annabelle Higgins, who wanted to stay with the students β a story paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren said was actually demonic manipulation. After an incident they described, in which a priest carrying the doll to be blessed nearly crashed his motorcycle, the Warrens took Annabelle into their own hands. She has remained locked inside a glass case marked "Warning: Positively Do Not Open" at the Warrens' Occult Museum in Monroe ever since, blamed by staff for unexplained incidents nearby.
