Why is Bird Cage Theatre said to be haunted?
Operating from December 1881 to 1889 in the booming silver town of Tombstone, Arizona, the Bird Cage Theatre earned its reputation as one of the wildest venues of the Old West, hosting a poker game so continuous — reportedly running eight years, five months, and three days without stopping — that it drew players like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. The New York Times once called it "the wildest, wickedest night spot between Basin Street and the Barbary Coast," and its walls still bear roughly 140 bullet holes from the era's frequent gunfights, in which at least 26 people are said to have died on the premises. Visitors and staff have long reported the ghost of "Margarita," a dance-hall girl reputedly killed in a jealous knife fight over a gambler, alongside disembodied voices, piano music with no player, and cold spots in the basement gambling hall.
