Why is Brennan's said to be haunted?
Founded in 1946 by Owen Edward Brennan in New Orleans' French Quarter, Brennan's restaurant became a Creole culinary institution, credited with inventing Bananas Foster in 1951 and popularizing the elaborate multi-course "Breakfast at Brennan's" tradition. Owen Brennan himself died suddenly in 1955, reportedly of a heart attack inside the restaurant he had built, and staff over the following decades have described his presence lingering in the building β a figure seen in the courtyard after closing, glasses that rattle on empty tables, and the sense of someone checking on the dining rooms during quiet hours. After a 2013 closure and top-to-bottom renovation, reopened staff said the reported activity in the historic Royal Street building continued much as before, treated by longtime employees less as a disturbance than as the founder still minding his house.
