Why is Cincinnati Music Hall said to be haunted?

Cincinnati Music Hall opened in 1878 on a site that had previously served as a potter's field, the city's burial ground for the poor, orphans and those who died in a mid-19th-century cholera epidemic β€” an origin the builders knew about and largely built over rather than around. Construction crews and later renovation workers have periodically unearthed human remains beneath the building over the decades, most notably during a major 1980s restoration, fueling reports from musicians, stagehands and cleaning staff of cold spots, disembodied voices in empty corridors and a persistent sense of being watched in the building's lower levels. "You don't stay alone down there past a certain hour," a longtime stagehand once told a local news crew. Home today to the Cincinnati Symphony, Opera, Ballet and Pops, the National Historic Landmark's Venetian Gothic grandeur draws packed houses even as its ghost stories remain a fixture of local Halloween tours.
