Why is George Stickney House said to be haunted?
Built around 1849 in the small village of Bull Valley, McHenry County, Illinois, the George Stickney House reflects its original owners' devotion to Spiritualism: George and Sylvia Stickney reportedly had the house built without a single 90-degree corner, believing spirits could become trapped in square angles. The couple held sΓ©ances in the octagonal rooms, and after both died β Sylvia in 1896 β locals began reporting footsteps, moving furniture, and cold spots that seemed to follow the home's rounded walls. Since 1985 the building has served as the Bull Valley Police Department headquarters, and officers stationed there overnight have informally traded stories of doors that won't stay latched and radios that crackle in empty rooms, keeping the house's ghostlore alive even inside a working police station.
