Why is Goodleburg Cemetery said to be haunted?
Active from 1811 to 1927, this small cemetery in South Wales, near Buffalo, held over a century of quiet burials before ghost stories began circulating in the late 1990s. The best-known legend names Dr. Albert Speaker, a local physician blamed for the deaths of an unknown number of women and infants under his care, whose troubled spirit is said to linger among the stones. Visitors report a "Lady in White," orbs of colored light in night photographs, and β near a pond at the cemetery's edge β sudden gusts of wind followed by what sounds like a crying infant. The site's reputation has drawn so many paranormal investigators that a visitor was struck and killed by a car there in 2003, and repeated vandalism later led writer Mason Winfield, who first popularized the stories, to say he regretted ever writing about it.
