Why is Gunntown Cemetery said to be haunted?
Tucked off a quiet road in Naugatuck, Connecticut, Gunntown Cemetery has been used for burials since 1790, when Congregational families and Revolutionary War veterans who backed independence from the Crown were laid to rest beneath its slate headstones. By the late 20th century the graveyard had acquired a second reputation: teenagers and paranormal investigators driving Gunntown Road at night reported a phantom black dog padding between the stones, disembodied footsteps crunching gravel with no one visible, and cold patches that settled over specific graves regardless of season. Local ghost-hunting groups have logged EVP sessions there since the 1990s, and the cemetery still appears on New England "most haunted" lists. As one longtime visitor put it, "you feel watched before you ever see anything move."
