Why is Jean Bonnet Tavern said to be haunted?

The Jean Bonnet Tavern has stood at a rural crossroads outside Bedford, Pennsylvania since around 1762, serving travelers on what became U.S. Route 30 long before it earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Local legend holds that a woman was hanged as a witch near the property in the tavern's early colonial years, and staff say her restless spirit, along with that of a jilted bride who reportedly took her own life in an upstairs room, still moves through the building at night. Bartenders and overnight guests have described glasses sliding across the bar unassisted, disembodied footsteps on the second floor, and a rocking chair that sways with no one seated in it.
