Why is Kay's Cross said to be haunted?
Kay's Cross stood in a wooded ravine known as Kay's Hollow above Kaysville, Utah, a large stone-and-mortar cross of uncertain origin that some accounts trace to early Mormon settlers and others to later, unrelated construction. By the late twentieth century it had become the center of persistent rumors of satanic rituals and animal sacrifice in the hollow, rumors Davis County sheriffs repeatedly investigated and never substantiated. In 1992 the cross was shattered by an explosion that was never officially explained, an event locals still debate as vandalism, a gas leak, or something stranger. "Kids dared each other to go up there after dark for as long as I can remember," a longtime Kaysville resident recalled in a local history interview. Despite the ruined cross, the hollow remains a magnet for teenage legend trips.
