Why is Morrill Hall (University of Maryland) said to be haunted?

Completed in 1898 for $24,000 in the Second Empire style, Morrill Hall — originally called Science Hall — is the oldest continuously used academic building at the University of Maryland, College Park, having survived the catastrophic Great Fire of 1912 that destroyed nearly every other structure on campus. Renamed for Senator Justin Morrill, author of the Land-Grant Colleges Act, the building has housed zoology, veterinary science, and other departments over the decades, and generations of students and faculty working late have reported footsteps on the upper floors after hours, doors that lock and unlock on their own, and cold drafts moving through sealed hallways. Some attribute the activity to a professor who reportedly died of a heart attack inside the building decades ago, a story repeated so often on campus that Morrill Hall regularly appears on University of Maryland ghost-story lists.
