Why is Norwich State Hospital said to be haunted?

Norwich State Hospital opened in October 1904 on the banks of the Thames River in Connecticut and grew to more than 30 buildings across 900 acres before closing in 1996, having housed geriatric, psychiatric and, between 1931 and 1939, tubercular patients. Decades of neglect and reports of treatments performed on-site, including lobotomies and electroshock therapy, gave rise to persistent stories of disembodied screaming in the old surgical wing and cold spots in the tunnels connecting the buildings. Urban explorers documented apparent handprints and scratch marks in the abandoned Seymour Building through the 2000s, and a televised paranormal investigation in the early 2010s recorded unexplained audio the crew described as a child's voice on a floor once used for pediatric psychiatric cases.
