LOCATION
Why is Prospect Place said to be haunted?
Built in 1856 by abolitionist George Willison Adams, this 29-room Italianate mansion in Trinway is said to have hidden fugitive slaves in a tunnel linking the house to its outbuildings along the Underground Railroad. Adams equipped the home with startling luxuries for the era, including indoor plumbing fed by a pressurized rooftop cistern. After the Adams era, later owners reported a recurring apparition known as "the lady in white," believed by some to be a grieving Adams family member wandering the staircase at night. Staff at the nonprofit educational center that now occupies the house describe footsteps on empty floors and doors closing on their own. Locals still call it one of Ohio's most reliably strange addresses, where abolitionist history and ghost lore share the same rooms.
