LOCATION
Why is Boy Scout Lane said to be haunted?
Boy Scout Lane, a narrow dirt road outside Stevens Point, Wisconsin, has circulated as an urban legend since at least the 1970s, most versions holding that a troop of Boy Scouts and their leader died there in a fire, a bus crash, or at the hands of a deranged killer, depending on who is telling the story, though no such documented tragedy has ever been confirmed. Generations of local teenagers have nonetheless driven the lane after dark hoping to see hanging figures in the trees, hear phantom footsteps keeping pace with their cars, or find their headlights mysteriously fail. "Everybody who grew up around here has a Boy Scout Lane story, and none of them match," a Stevens Point resident told a Wisconsin newspaper in the 2000s. Paranormal investigation groups have visited repeatedly since the 1990s, and the road, now on private land, is closed to the public.
