Why is Bridgewater Triangle said to be haunted?

Cryptozoologist Loren Coleman coined the name Bridgewater Triangle in the 1970s for a roughly 200-square-mile area of southeastern Massachusetts centered on the Hockomock Swamp, whose Wampanoag name is said to mean "place where spirits dwell." Within its boundaries, witnesses have reported an unusually dense cluster of anomalies: glowing orbs over the swamp, Bigfoot-like creatures near Freetown-Fall River State Forest, giant snakes, phantom black dogs, and even thunderbird sightings dating back to the 1970s and 80s. Local Wampanoag tradition already held the swamp as spiritually significant long before European settlers arrived, and colonial-era conflict during King Philip's War in 1675–76 left further layers of tragedy tied to the land, including Anawan Rock, where the Wampanoag leader Anawan surrendered. Paranormal investigators continue to treat the Triangle as one of New England's most concentrated hotspots, even though no single event or record ties all its reported phenomena together.
